Announcing the public launch of Evolved Inclusion! Evolved Studio is a content editor and analyzer that shows where your language could be influencing the diversity of your hires. Use it to build a better, more diverse team, faster.

The Vision Behind Evolved Inclusion

I was previously lucky enough to lead a fantastic team of more than 100 people across engineering, leadership, and contracting roles. I hired a lot, and constantly sought to increase diversity on my teams. But the number of non-white, non-men I interviewed was relatively slim. What I saw wasn’t good enough.

I began dedicating more time to understanding what influences demographics in different professions, especially science and technology. Spoiler alert: there’s a lot. But one thing struck me as both surprising and oddly intuitive. Language in job postings impacts the diversity of my applicants in profound and often hidden ways. My own writing was working against me. That’s when I began Evolved Inclusion.

You’re over 9 times as likely to find the word “holistic” in a job posting for a role predominantly occupied by women. “Reflective?” 15 times as likely.

If you’re not convinced this could be real, let me share a note from Evolved’s research. This one’s on gender, from an analysis of over 4 million job postings in concert with demographics data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The upshot? Job posting language and gender are strongly intertwined: you’re over 9 times as likely to find the word “holistic” in a job posting for a role predominantly occupied by women. “Reflective?” 15 times as likely. Corollary findings exist for roles occupied primarily by men. It’s astounding.

Obviously diversity isn’t just gender. There are extraordinary, and often subtle, relationships between language and inclusion across race, abilities, cultural background and more. Your words could be turning people away at the door without you (or them) even knowing it. Time to hire and candidate success are make or break for your project, team and company. Don’t you want your posting to have the best shot at attracting the best person for your role? Whoever they are?

I created Evolved Inclusion for just this. It can do a lot now, and it will soon be able to more. See at https://evolvedin.ai/product.

Keeping it Simple

Diversity in the workplace is an incredibly complex and nuanced issue, and it’s getting a lot of well-deserved attention. Enormous efforts are underway, and companies are investing millions of dollars in far-reaching systemic solutions. Fantastic.

Evolved Inclusion is meant to offer something simple - it’s something to do right now. It’s fast and intuitive. It shouldn’t take more than a couple minutes to learn something and do something. Even if you disagree with the feedback (you probably won’t agree with everything) you’ll have taken a step, and you’ll have learned something.

Nota bene: There is other great software out there dedicated to solving this same problem. Yes! I am grateful it exists. But when I was looking for my solution, I found alternatives either too complicated or too expensive. It seemed like their pricing models worked more for them than they worked for me.

Evolved Inclusion is an elegant, fast tool for improving the diversity of your hires. Sign up is easy, using it is easy, and the budget req is easy. It has simple pricing that doesn’t require five rounds between a sales team and your CFO. See for yourself: https://evolvedin.ai/pricing.

More to Come

After more than 100 internal releases, I could not be happier to say that version 1.0 is ready. It truly delivers on the first phase for Evolved Inclusion. But no software, including this one, is ever really finished. Evolved Inclusion will continue to improve and expand its feedback, abilities, and integrations to help you hire more diverse teams faster.

Please try it out and let me know what you think. I would love ideas, questions, or feedback - email me at moses@evolvedin.ai.

Cheers.
